Supervised Changeovers

What are Supervised
Changeovers

A supervised changeover is a safe, neutral process that allows children to transition between parents or carers without conflict or direct contact between the adults. It is especially helpful in situations where communication is strained, there are safety concerns, or where court orders require a third party to manage handovers.

At Family Konnect, our trained staff facilitate the exchange in a calm and structured environment, supporting the child’s sense of stability and security. By removing the stress and tension that can arise during changeovers, we help children feel more comfortable and supported during family transitions. The focus is always on the child’s wellbeing, ensuring they can move between parents in a safe, consistent, and emotionally healthy way.

What happens during a
Supervised
Changeover?

During a supervised changeover, a trained staff member is present to manage the exchange of the child between parents or carers.

Parents arrive at separate times or use different entry points to avoid direct contact, and the child is calmly supported throughout the transition. The supervising staff ensures the handover is smooth, minimises any potential conflict, and provides reassurance to the child.

Once the changeover is complete, the parent departing leaves before the other arrives or moves out of sight, depending on the arrangement. This process helps reduce stress for everyone involved and supports a consistent, child-focused routine.

Supervised changeovers take place in safe, neutral, and child-friendly locations that support a calm transition between parents. We carefully select venues that prioritise the comfort and wellbeing of children, such as parks, community spaces, or public areas with low stimulation. Where does the Changeover take place?

Child Familiarisation Session

Our Child Familiarisation Session is a supportive, one-on-one visit designed to help children feel comfortable and confident before beginning supervised contact. This session takes place in the child’s home to provide a familiar and reassuring environment, allowing the child to meet the allocated supervisor in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. The aim is to gently ease the child into the visitation process and address any anxieties they may have. A detailed written report is provided following the session, documenting observations and the child’s level of engagement.
